Munsell Neutral Value Scale Gloss

The Munsell Neutral Value Scale Glossy M50130 can be used for instrumental calibration, imaging testing or as a reflection standard.

A common use is to determine the correct level of neutral grey paint for use as a background for photography or in rooms where digital imaging and editing takes place or indeed in cinemas to provide a background colour which does not distract the eye from the screen or the product. The Matte scale is most often used for these purposes, but the Glossy scale may be required if the surface is required to have a specular (glossy) finish.

This is a standard grey scale of 37 steps with values 0.5 to 9.5 in quarter step intervals. Munsell notation and % reflectance for CIE Illuminant C are supplied for each step on the scale.
