The RAL Design Plus system is an easy to use colour system guided by the internationally accepted CIELab system. 39 main colours are included with additional subtle variations in lightness and chroma giving a total of 1825 colours.
The colours are methodically arranged and labelled with 7-digit numbers according to their Hue (H), Lightness (L) and Chroma (C). For example a neutral grey with notation 000 50 00 has no hue or chroma but lightness of 50 which is the midpoint, whereas 270 30 20 is a dark blue.
The RAL Design system colours are perfect for architecture, interior and decorative colour design to specify paint or coating colours. All products in the range have a semi matte finish and a comprehensive range of light and dark colours. Formats range from portable guides suitable for interior designers to carry to client meetings to larger atlases. Removable paper chips are available in some of the larger tools. A collection of the most popular colours is also available as large Plastic chips.

All RAL Design Plus products have a semi matte finish and a comprehensive range of colours suitable for interior design. The entry level product is the RAL D2 fan guide which is suitable for creative colour selection. If you have a large design office or team you may prefer the D8 collection of 8 colour fans each containing a different hue area. For client presentations and mood boards the D3 Colour Toolbook is ideal as it has removable chips. Alternatively invest in the RAL D6 box of A6 samples.
The D4 Atlas displays the colours in their colour space arrangement with one hue per page along with additional colour information. This assists designers in the development of co-ordinating collections.
If you are working in Plastic or other hard materials then RAL P2 Plastic chips will be useful. It is a collection of 200 of the most popular RAL Design colours in Plastic plaque format. These can be used as colour standards.
