The long-awaited Pantone Colour of the Year 2022 will soon be announced! Here at VeriVide we are eagerly anticipating the chosen colour, representing the developing trends for 2022. For over 20 years, Pantone’s Colour of the Year selection process has involved careful trend analysis and thoughtful consideration. Particularly looking at multiple colour influences and impacts across the globe.
2021 saw us with not one, but TWO colours of the year: Illuminating and Ultimate Gray. Two independent colours that marry together to convey a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting. After the hardships of 2020, the world needed a colour of hope and resilience, which the combination of Illuminating and Ultimate Gray gave us. Positivity and uplifting the human spirit.
As we have gone through 2021, we have weathered a few more storms and it hasn’t been all plain sailing. The feeling of appreciating good times, free-spirited optimism and the need for security and clarity are still very much with us and are here to stay.
The recent trend forecast released for the London and New York fashion Week for Spring and Summer 2022, normally gives us a good idea of what the COTY might be. This time, there are no overlapping colours between the London and New York Colour Palette – Pantone are keeping us guessing! However, similar themes can be seen between the two, with a mixture of brights and pastels, but also natural earthy tones.
With this in mind, let’s look at some of the colours and predict what the Pantone COTY will be for 2022!
Greens & Blues
With a representation of calm, nature and sustainability, there is a lot of emphasis of blues and greens for 2022. We have Fragile Sprout 15-0549, a very vivid green, visually sharp and acidic, Cascade 14-5713, a calming turquoise leading you to dream of cascading waters, very cool and refreshing. Or it could be Harbor Blue 18-4728 reflecting our search for that safe space in a world of new and confusing rules or are Pantone going to go towards a pastel with Glacier Lake 16-4118, another calming and cooling colour, conveying serenity and stillness.
Browns
Let’s think about those earthy tones to make us feel closer to nature and reminding us to stay grounded and calm. Sudan Brown 18-1160 does exactly that with a rich earth baked brown to remind us about the great outdoors. Equally we have Coffee Quartz 18-1307, basic but glamorous and an energy boost for the eyes. Followed closely by Coca Mocha 18-1019, a colour to warm the heart and lift the spirit.
Brights
But maybe Pantone will go bright and choose a colour to represent a fresh start, a bold move, a message of hope and positivity. Maybe we will pop into the next year with Bubble Gum 17-1928, an eye-catching and playful pink. An even brighter option would be Innuendo 18-2042 bringing along a tantalizing message of love and hope. Or maybe a dramatic feel with Dahlia 18-3324 or Poinciana 18-1564, the former a dynamic stand-out purple and the latter a commanding red, providing an equally dramatic entrance.
