London Fashion Week
With London Fashion week being the hottest topic this month, we decided to share with you the top trend colours that Pantone has forecasted. These will help you elevate your design with the most market-relevant colours for autumn/winter 2020/ 2021.
But first, let’s dive into the main highlights of the catwalk shows and then share with you some inspirational colours published by Pantone Color Institute for the fashion industry.
London Fashion Week is running from 14th to 18th February. It’s one of the most anticipated fashion events after New York, Paris and Milan, hosting the most famous and innovative designers and brands.
Living at a time of climate emergency, different industries have started to change approach to make their business more sustainable. Traceability and transparency are terms that many industries started to be aware of and focus on in the last 5 years. The Fashion industry especially has been in the spotlight as a major culprit of consuming resources and contributing to the carbon footprint and is called to develop more sustainable solutions.
The focus at London’s Catwalk shows
As the focus on the impact of chemicals in the environment or the exploitation of natural resources continues to grow, positive fashion is gaining momentum. Positive fashion is referred to as the movement of brand members to make improvements in the materials used and standards within the supply chain. The more consumers demand sustainable solutions for the environment the more brands and retailers are pressured to act.
We have seen many ground-breaking designers change their fashion approach to be more sustainable, including Tommy Hilfiger, Christopher Kane and Vivienne Westwood. New business models require the use of more environmental-friendly materials and more transparent and sustainable manufacturing processes, using natural dyes to reduce the chemicals or reengineered textiles and organic materials, and introducing recycling programs for garments.
We don’t forget that London, after all, is the origin of Extinction Rebellion, the organisation of activists who protest about climate change. Therefore, London will be the leader to the movement for positive fashion, with the British Fashion Council declaring the focus for Autumn/ Winter 2020 to be positive fashion and inclusivity.
Trend colours for Autumn/Winter 2020-2021
Announced on 13th February, the Pantone Color Institute’s fashion Colour Trend Report Autumn/ Winter 2020-2021 provides insight into the top 10 trend colours. Additionally 4 neutral colours were included in the overview of the most popular colours shown at London Fashion Week.
Focusing on consumers attitudes and demands, the new seasonal colours give a more practical and infinite feeling but at the same time can be adaptable and striking. “Less is more” is not a jargon, it’s the current tendency and we love it! Therefore, the colour palettes of Autumn/Winter 2020/2021 are more sensible and realistic but creative and versatile too.
As Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, admits “imbued with strength and personality, colours for Autumn/Winter 2020/2021 encourage our ongoing desire for unique self-expression through creative and unusual visual statements that stand out”.
Forecasted Colours
As the sustainable approach in the fashion industry is highlighted, we are not surprised that more natural and earthy hues are being included in fashion design. We love the simplicity and functionality of the strong olive tone (Military Olive 19-0622) that can be combined easily with more vibrant colours. From the bronze biscuit tone (Tawny Birch 17-1225) to the elegant blue-green colour (Ultramarine Green 18-5338) and the sophisticated carmine-brick colour (Burnt Henna 19-1540), all these colours present a feeling of gracefulness and practicality.
Optimistic and playful tones couldn’t be missed from this colour report, with Mandarin Red 17-1562, the ruby-crimson of Samba 19-1662 and the eye-catching electric blue of Strong Blue 18-4051 leading the colour palette.
Have a look at the Autumn/ Winter 2020/ 2021 colour palette and we hope you will be as excited as we are!
